Quick verdict
The Battery Doorbell Plus is the Ring to buy if you rent, or if you simply refuse to run doorbell wiring. The square head-to-toe camera solves the classic doorway problem – packages on the ground and faces right at the lens – and installation is a two-minute bracket swap. The catch is the subscription: without Ring Protect, this camera saves nothing, which materially changes its value.
Key specs
| Video | 1536p HD+, 150° head-to-toe square field of view |
| Power | Quick-release rechargeable battery (no wiring needed) |

| Price | About $149.99; Ring Protect from roughly $4.99/month |
What we like
- The vertical field of view shows a person from hat to shoes and a package at the mat – one lens doing the job two cameras used to.
- Genuinely tool-free setup; the whole swap is under ten minutes including app pairing.
- Person detection is dependable, and Bird’s Eye View adds a rough motion trail that is surprisingly useful for porch checks.
- Battery swaps in seconds, and the spare battery is cheap insurance in winter.
What could be better
- No local storage whatsoever – cancel the subscription and the camera becomes live-view only.
- Battery life drops fast in cold weather and on busy sidewalks; expect weeks, not months, in winter.
- Quick replies and advanced alerts continue to migrate deeper into the higher subscription tier.
Who it is for – and who should skip it
Buy it for rentals, apartments, and side doors where wiring is impossible. Skip it if you already have doorbell wiring (the wired Ring models cut this cost with better responsiveness) or if local storage matters to you – Eufy and Wyze alternatives serve that preference.
How it compares
- Ring Battery Doorbell (base) – cheaper, but drops to 1440p and loses head-to-toe view.
- Eufy battery doorbells – local storage with no monthly fee, at the cost of a weaker app ecosystem.
- Google Nest Doorbell (battery) – excellent person recognition, but a subscription is also effectively required.
